CASE STUDY: LEAN AND YOUTHFUL THROUGH LIPOSUCTION

This 42-year-old woman was dissatisfied with her abdomen and love handles. She wanted an overall leaner and more youthful figure. She underwent a combination of Laser and Power Assisted Liposuction. This procedure was performed in the office under local anesthesia. The photos after below were taken about 2 months post-op. She was so happy with the results, that she sent us this video.

Power Assisted Liposuction (PAL)

Power Assisted Liposuction uses a reciprocating motion, to facilitate the movement of the cannula within tissue. The patients often feel this as a vibration. This innovation reduces the amount of manual force and physical effort required to perform liposuction, especially in areas with dense fibrous tissue. The result is a more comfortable experience for the surgeon and the patient, as well as more precise removal of fat, and creation of the body’s natural curves.

LASER Liposuction

Laser Liposuction uses a laser and heat to liquefy the fat before removing it out of the body. It can be advantageous in treating certain areas with dense fibrous tissue, and can produce smooth natural results. Laser can be used along with Power Assisted Liposuction.

VASER Liposuction

VASER liposuction uses ultrasound technology to target fat cells. It liquefies the fat before removing it out of the body. It can be used to remove large quantities of fat, finely sculpt areas adding definition, or treat stubborn areas such as love handles that do not respond well to diet and exercise. Vaser can be used along with Power Assisted Liposuction.

The different technologies can be confusing for the patient. But don’t worry, Dr. Mehta is experienced in all three, and will go over them in detail during your consultation.

Day of Procedure:

You would arrive at the office an hour before scheduled. You’ll be seen by the Nurse Practitioner who will go over details of the procedure, take vital signs, and answer any last minute questions you may have. A light snack will also be given at this time. You will then change into a gown and be escorted to the procedure room. Dr. Mehta will next mark the areas to be liposuctioned, and take some photographs. You’ll also be given some oral medication to help you relax. Feel free to bring your music and headphones. Most patients tend to take a nap during the procedure.

Laser Liposuction:

In the first part of the procedure, local anesthesia is used for your comfort. Patients usually feel a small initial pinch at start, and nothing else. Once the area is completely numb, Dr. Mehta will use a laser to melt fat deposits in the targeted area. The laser is moved back and forth until all fat is melted. Concurrently, the laser is used to stimulate collagen production in the skin, for skin tightening. Once all the targeted fat is melted, it’s time to remove it from the body. In this last part of the procedure, suctioning cannulas are used to remove fat from the body. The body is contoured simultaneously to produce the desired result.

Post-Procedure:

After laser liposuction is completed, the nurse practitioner and surgical assistant will help you with the compression garment and your clothes. You’ll be given another light snack, and post-procedure directions before leaving. Most patients resume normal activities the day after their procedure, however, it’s recommended you wait several days before resuming to strenuous activity and exercising. You’ll be given the Nurse practitioners and Dr. Mehta’s cell phone numbers in case any questions arise.

If you are interested in Laser Liposuction of hard to lose areas, feel free to ask Dr. Mehta about your options.
